The JRA has completed and sent the results of our High Park Avenue Residents bikeway network survey to the City of Toronto of Transportation Services.
Our survey results are mixed and no clear consensus was reached but we did make the following summary and notes.
Junction Residents Association Summary
The Junction Residents Association presented and discussed the survey findings during our September 16 and November 11, 2010 members meetings in an effort to find a consensus.
Given the survey received only a 10% response and with no consensus from residents we can’t support any recommendation based on our survey results or meeting discussions. However, attendees at our March 11, 2010 members meeting endorsed the placement of sharrows on High Park Avenue. Therefore, we request the City of Toronto Transportation Services move forward with their best recommendation.
Other notes
Residents’ knowledge of sharrow markings is very limited and further public information campaigns may help explain the benefits of these markings.
High Park Avenue residents do not support the removal of on-street parking.
Traffic congestion resulting from the addition of bike lanes on Annette Street and Dupont Street around Lansdowne Avenue was a major point of contention among many of our respondents. It was often cited as a reason not to put bike lanes anywhere.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. The full report can be found here JRA – High Park Avenue Residents Survey Summary – Nov 24, 2010
Transportation Services is reviewing our report, speaking to our new councilor and will advise the JRA of moving forward, we will pass on any information we receive.
