Celebrate the Junction — September 9, 10 and 11

The 2011 Junction Arts Festival has been cancelled, but the community spirit that sparked the festival twenty years ago is very much alive.  This spirit is producing a number of independent events to fill that weekend.

Your JRA is also asking everyone in our community to plan something for September 9, 10 or 11.  Why not invite friends, family and neighbours over for a BBQ?  Take a walk down Dundas with a guitar?  Shop in local stores, eat in local restaurants, have a picnic in a local park — whatever you can imagine to get as many people as possible to celebrate our Junction together.  We may miss the structured Festival this year, but the Junction spirit still knows how to party!

Celebrate the Junction — JRA offers to publicize independent events

Are you planning an event for September 9, 10 or 11, and want some soon-to-be new friends to join?   Baseball games in the park, street garage sale, sidewalk chalk-art extravaganza, even a lemonade stand — let the JRA know and we will help let the Junction know.

Do you own a business that is planning an event for September 9, 10 or 11?   Live bands, indie arts show, sidewalk sale and everything in between — let the JRA know and we will help let the Junction know.

Make it fun, make it Junction!

Celebrate the Junction events:

Toronto Library Community Day — Saturday, September 10, 1 to 4 pm

The Annette Street Library is setting up a tent for an impromptu community day.  Your JRA, as well as the West Toronto Junction Historical Society and others, will be participating with a JRA booth.  Your JRA executive team will be on hand to talk all things Junction.  We will also be conducting some community planning activities that you can participate in, as we did last year with Activity Mapping.

Last year, the Arts Festival boosted our membership numbers substantially, so we’ll really miss that opportunity this year.  If you are one of those who joined during last year’s Festival, then your one-year membership is up for renewal next month.  Please stop by the Library on Sept. 10 and renew your membership ($10 a person), or take out a new one — support the work of your JRA!

JRA Members Meeting on September 8

Your next JRA meeting will be on Thursday, September 8 at 7 pm.

The meeting is at the West Toronto Baptist Church, 3049 Dundas Street West.  Come out, meet your neighbours and help shape the Junction by getting involved.
